Dad's Update

Unfortunately, we have not gotten a weekly email from Chance in a while and for that he apologizes.  It is easier for him to communicate on a weekly basis through Google Hangouts.  We are encouraging him to write though so that you hear updates on his mission from him rather than us.

Chance continues to be in Karratha (Northwestern coast).  This is his fourth transfer there and he is happy to continue there as he loves the location as well as the people that he has met there.  He continues with his companion that he has had for 3 transfers now.  He is happy and excited to continue to do the work there.

He had a good birthday, but as with most holidays it was hard to be away from family.  He is being called the old man in the mission as he is now 20 when most of the others will go home at 19.  Chance is on the downhill slope now having passed the year mark of his mission in mid June.

The work is going good.  Chance and his companion are doing a lot of service and working with the youth.  They have one person that has committed to baptism and they are looking forward to that.  Their teaching pool of investigators is growing.  According to Chance, it is slow going and often frustrating, but their hard work is starting to bare a bit of fruit.

Chance is having a lot of fun serving the Lord and is learning a lot.  He wants you to know that he loves and misses you all.

Looking Forward to Hungi

I guess I can do a weekly about a monthly. J

This week has been really quick. We were able to follow through on a lot of our plans that we had made for our two transfer goals which was a blessing. In a recap, we got to watch our Mission President’s final Zone Conference before he departs on the 30th of this month. The transfer of the literal and Priesthood keys to President Bennallack was exciting to see.  It was cool to see the change in leadership.

I am stoked to see what this week holds for me and my companion. We are currently going into week 4 of the 6 week transfer and man has this one just booked on bye. We were able to teach a lot of lessons this week and that was a blessing. As Missionaries, we are set apart to teach and serve the people of our areas. In Aussie however, it is difficult to do the first part everyone is very reserved and most abhor religion especially one that takes away their alcohol and forces them to get married if they want to join through baptism.

Some exciting events coming up in the next few months will be the Hungi. It is a big Polynesian cooking style and dish that the branch will be doing as a fundraiser for the temple trip they have this September. The Hungi is super good and brings about 300-400 people from the community out to experience the culture so we are looking forward to making some good contacts there and helping members with fellowship.

Lastly we will be helping with the Fenacllng event here in august. It is a festival celebrating the different mining organizations such as fe (iron), nacl, (salt), lng (natural gas). We are stoked to be doing a family history discovery booth there and hope that we will be able to get the ball rolling in terms of contacts and potential lessons from that.

The highlights from this week would probably the hymn I stand all amazed. I was referencing that and the song what a wonderful world. I think it is cool the relationship that the Atonement, Creation, and the Fall all have with each other. Bruce R McConkie called them the three pillars of eternity in an address that he gave BYU.

Kangaroos!!

Unfortunately, Chance did not send a weekly email that I can post.  Though we were able to chat over Google Hangouts, the conversation was more about what was going on at home rather than what was happening there.

Some things that he did say is that he and his companion were able to perform some service at a kangaroo reserve.  He was also able to to Port Hedland to do exchanges with the Elders there.
