My New Companion; Elder Kenyon

Hey Gang, it has been a while.

I am pretty slack at writing and updating weeklies. I have been really enjoying my time in Karratha. My previous companion elder Mortenson just got transferred to Geraldton. I have just received Elder Kenyon. He is a native to New Zealand and the Cook Islands. He has been on his mission for six months and we get along alright ha-ha.

We have been working hard out here lately. Looking for any service opportunity that we can to soften the hearts of the people. With the opening of the new Red Earth Arts building, we have been cleaning the streets and helping the branch through “The Helping Hands” initiative. We have been trying to tap into the just serve initiative by the church as well.

There hasn't been much success in the little town of Karratha. We are working hard to change that. President Fife and Sister Fife made their way up here for the last visit to the branch before they depart here in June. We had a blast studying and learning from them over bowls of ice cream.

We are being diligent in the work and pressing forward to hopefully some lessons in the future. The members here support us and are good at fellowshipping those we bring. Over the last weeks or so they have taken us out to cool activities in exploring the Pilbura which has been very fun. I love it here, just wish it would cool down.

In my studies lately I have been going through the Book of Mormon with the institute manual and that has helped me to learn heaps more than I would have on my own, guess I should have paid more attention at college.

I hope that you all have a wonderful week. If you have any questions you want answered about AU, I am your man.

The Steak Challenge

We had a wonderful week of service it felt like. Everything was pretty non-stop leading up to when our Mission Presidency member, Jon Eley, came up.

I would say physical highlights I lost 5 kilos and then put it right back on with a steak challenge.

Spiritual highlight I would have to say would be a miracle we witnessed at church. One of the many less active members in the area came to church. We have been on a search for this guy for months and turns out he recently moved. He and his wife are from South Africa and are awesome. They are trying to change and raise their upcoming family in the gospel. We have loved talking to them and it was a blessing to report something other than 000s for once on the weekly report.

I really enjoy the weather. It is starting to cool off to mid-30's which is a blessing for here. The middle of the days are still hot but the mornings and the evenings are fun.

We were able to do a good service moving a non-member as well this week. We had a good showing from the branch and helped her load her cars for Perth.

I am excited for what this next week has; hopefully, some quality teaching opportunities. We don’t see a lot of that.

They Are Pretty Gangsta

This week has flown bye. We were able to hightail it out to Broome this week. That was fun. I got to know a cool Elder from Portugal his name is Elder Silva. We got to watch some regional AFL and that was pretty nuts. If I had any words of wisdom; no sport is as crazy with blind side hits as the AFL (Aussie Football League).

I have enjoyed reading everyone’s Easter messages this week. My companion and I appreciate the “Because of Him” videos that the church puts out every year. They are pretty gangsta.

Not a lot has been happening, but we have seen some miracles this week. There was a family from the nearby ghetto town of Roeburn that moved to Karratha. Kimmi, the mom, and her three kids came to church and stayed all 3 hours so that was a blessing. We have some good member missionary work brewing. That is all that is really needed for the investigators and things to progress in this area is just members getting on board.

I was able to pick up some cool souvenirs in Broome, so look for a package in a month or two ha-ha. I hope all is well back home. The 40 degree heat has been a killer lately. I am excited for it to cool down here in April.

Thanks for all the love and support.
